Protecting and preserving the natural beauty and ecological integrity of Biddeford Pool
Our goal
Our coastal landscape is home to remarkable ecosystems - dunes, salt marshes, woodlands, and meadows - that provide habitat for wildlife, protect shorelines, and support the health of our waters.
Biddeford Pool Conservation Trust is deeply committed to caring for these special places and keeping them healthy and beautiful for generations to come.
Supporting native plants
Native plants are at the heart of local ecosystems, and we’re taking a range of measures to support them to thrive on the properties we manage. Native plants contribute to biodiverse and resilient landscapes by providing essential food and shelter for insects, birds, and other wildlife.

Restoring dune grasses
Volunteers replanted thousands of dune grass seedlings along the Biddeford Pool beach in early 2025 and 2026. These dunes provide important habitat for nesting Piping Plovers.
The aim is to support coastline restoration after heavy winter storms swept much of the dune grass away and eroded the shoreline.
Managing invasive plants
One of the greatest challenges to coastal habitat health is the spread of invasive plant species, such as Japanese knotweed and Oriental bittersweet. These plants often grow quickly and crowd out native vegetation, reducing biodiversity, altering soil and water conditions, and weakening the natural resilience of our landscape.
