Our Work
Fletcher’s Neck Sanctuary
Fletcher’s Neck Sanctuary (FNS) is a place that prioritizes ecological health and offers a haven of biodiversity to all - people, plants, and wildlife.
This land will gradually be turned into a place that birds, insects, and other species seek out as habitat. Much of the property is managed as early successional shrubland habitat, with pockets of meadows, adjacent wetlands, stands of taller trees, and sand dunes adding to the natural diversity.
A short trail system will bring people through the property, but priority will be given to wildlife habitat over human recreation. Long-term management will keep invasive plants in check while monitoring the success of chosen native plantings.
Restoring native habitat
Fletcher’s Neck Sanctuary is managed as a ‘mosaic of habitats’. This includes shrubland, mature stands of trees, wetlands, sand dunes, open uplands, and dense thickets.
